Soft boiled eggs recipe is a quick and easy to make meal prep that can make a meal feel special without needing much time or effort. Easy to keep ready in the fridge and perfect when you need something quick for breakfast, lunch, or a snack. Learn how to make soft boiled eggs for beginners in just a few minutes.

There is immense satisfaction in slicing open a perfectly soft-boiled egg with its yolk remaining tender and semi-liquid to reveal the warm, creamy center.
Preparing such an egg is incredibly quick and easy, making it an excellent choice for a simple breakfast, a light snack, or an easy addition to a meal. By following just a few simple steps, you can create an egg at home featuring tender whites and a delicious, creamy yolk.
Soft-boiled eggs can be enjoyed in many ways. They can be served on toast, mixed into a breakfast bowl, placed over rice or vegetables, or eaten simply with a little salt and pepper. They are also excellent for enhancing the flavor and protein content of noodles, salads, and other everyday dishes.
The best part about making a soft-boiled egg is the perfect texture: the white is fully cooked yet tender, while the yolk remains soft, creamy, and warm on the inside. Once you know the right timing, preparing this egg becomes very easy.

Even a slight variation in cooking time can alter the consistency or texture of the yolk, so mastering the precise timing may require some practice. One minute can make a difference between a very soft center and a yolk that is a little more set.
That is why I wanted to make this soft boiled eggs recipe simple and easy to follow. Instead of making the process complicated, you can use a straightforward cooking method and pay attention to the cooking time. After making them a few times, you will have a much better idea of exactly how you like your eggs.
Whether for a quick breakfast, a light snack, or an easy addition to toast, rice, noodles, salads, or bowl meals, knowing how to make soft-boiled eggs is a highly useful kitchen skill. Once you master the technique, you can enjoy wonderfully creamy, perfectly cooked eggs whenever you like.

How To Make Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs
The main part is that it depends on how you cook the eggs and the timing, and how you peel off the skin after boiling.
Step One: Prepare hot and cold water. Boil the water in a medium-sized pot or pan. Ensure the eggs are completely covered in the water, with the water level rising at least an inch above them. Before the water starts boiling, take the eggs out of the refrigerator and place them on the counter, and prepare an ice-water bath in a large bowl.
Step Two: Boil the eggs thoroughly. Once the water starts to boil, reduce the heat and carefully place the eggs into the hot water using a strainer or a spoon. Then, increase the heat to bring the water back to a boil. Boil the eggs for 6 to 7 minutes, keeping track of the time, not more than that.
Step Three: Place the eggs in ice water. Once the eggs are boiled to your desired consistency or preferred time, remove them using a strainer or spoon and immediately submerge them in ice-cold water to stop the cooking process. Leave the eggs in the water for 3 minutes before peeling them.
Step Four: Peel the eggs. Finally, peel the egg! Tap the bottom of the soft-boiled egg to crack and remove a small piece of the shell. Carefully insert a small spoon between the egg and the shell, then rotate it around the egg to loosen and remove the shell. I really love this simple method for peeling soft-boiled eggs, though it might take a little practice to get it perfect. If you prefer, you can also peel the egg by hand, just like in my hard-boiled egg recipe.
Peel the remaining eggs in the same way and enjoy!
Tips:
- Most people make the mistake of starting with cold water when boiling eggs. The correct method is to use boiling water; once the water is boiling completely, reduce the heat and carefully place the eggs into the water.
- For this recipe, ensure the water maintains a gentle boil. While bubbles should rise, the water shouldn’t boil so hard that the eggs bounce around inside the pot; if it boils too hard, the eggshells could crack from bumping against the bottom.
- Use enough water to ensure the eggs are completely submerged, and take care not to overcrowd the pot.
- I prefer eggs with a gooey and jam-like yolk, partly liquid and partly starting to set. To achieve this texture, I boil the eggs for 7 minutes. If you prefer a more liquid or ‘runny’ yolk, boil them for 6 and a half minutes.
- Placing the eggs in ice-cold water (an ice bath) after boiling is highly beneficial, as it cools them quickly and makes peeling easier.
- When cooking multiple eggs at once, try arranging them in a single layer so they cook evenly. After peeling, rinse the eggs before serving to ensure no small shell fragments remain attached.

How to Store Soft Boiled Eggs and How Long?
Unpeeled: Safe to eat for up to 2 days. Although many people keep and consume them at home for three or four days, food safety guidelines recommend eating them within 48 hours; this is because eggs with semi-liquid or soft yolks carry a higher risk of bacterial contamination compared to fully hard-boiled eggs.
Peeling: Once peeled, they should be eaten immediately or stored in a container submerged in clean, cold water in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
Congratulation! You have now perfectly soft-boiled an egg! You can enjoy them as a snack just as they are, sprinkled with a little salt and black pepper.

- 2 to 4 large eggs
