Simple Four Ingredients of Easy Deviled Eggs

You heard right, this creamy, tasty and flavorful Deviled egg recipe is made with just few kitchen ingredients that you already have on hand. So you will need only:

Eggs: Take 5-6 large eggs that are hard-boiled, then slice them in half to get more. If you’re making for a big batch party or small party or get-together, feel free to add more and more eggs, whatever is needed (I do this same for all time).

Mayonnaise: Add mayonnaise for flavor; use a store-bought brand you like, or you can make your own.

Dijon mustard: I personally like and suggest using Dijon mustard over yellow mustard to get more amazing, deep flavor.

Salt, pepper, and paprika: The seasoning is simple and makes the recipe so much more flavorful and delicious. Add paprika on top to look good and colorful. But you can use any toppings whatever you like.

Apple cider vinegar: For tangy flavor, you can use it in this recipe, but I skip it for this recipe. If you don’t like vinegar, you can also use pickle juice for tang flavor. (Optional)

How to Make Deviled Eggs

The recipe is super easy and quick to make at home for any holidays.

Step One: Start with perfectly hard-boiled eggs. Place the eggs in a pot and boil them until they are fully hard-cooked. I usually boil the eggs for 12–14 minutes. This is the key to getting perfect hard-boiled eggs; this gives the yolks a firm texture that works well for deviled eggs. Keep an eye on the cooking time to ensure the center of the yolk remains bright and creamy.

Step Two: Cool the eggs in an ice water bath. While the eggs are boiling, prepare a bowl filled with ice and cold water. Once the eggs are done after 14 minutes, carefully transfer them from the hot water into the ice bath. Let them cool completely; wait up to 5-10 minutes. This makes them easier to handle and helps you get the eggs ready for the next step.

Step Three: Cut the eggs and prepare the yolks. Once the eggs have cooled completely, gently peel off the shells. You will see that the shells are easy to remove (Tip: Do this under running water). Cut each egg in half lengthwise. Use a small spoon to carefully remove the yolks and place them in a small bowl. Keep the cooked egg whites together on a serving plate.

Step Four: Make the creamy deviled egg filling. Mash the egg yolks with a fork until they are smooth and creamy. Add mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar(optional), salt, and pepper. Stir everything together until you have a smooth, creamy filling. Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning if needed.

Step Five: Fill the egg whites. Use a small spoon to add the yolk mixture back into the center of each egg white. You can also put the filling or creamy mixture into a piping bag and pipe it into the egg whites if you want them extra pretty looks. Sprinkle a little paprika over the filled eggs for a simple pop of color and extra flavor. Your deviled eggs are now ready to serve.

How to Make Deviled Eggs Ahead of Time

You can boil the eggs and let them cool in advance, and prepare the filling later; the filling itself can also be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, simply fill the egg whites with the mixture and sprinkle a little paprika powder on top, or any other topping whatever you like. Don’t sprinkle paprika on top until right before serving, as the red color can spread.

Preparing this easy deviled eggs recipe is a very convenient option when you are preparing several dishes for a gathering.

How to Store Deviled Eggs

The best way to enjoy Deviled eggs to make on the day, but if you have leftover or extra you can store them on your freeze for 2 to 3 days. Since they contain eggs and mayonnaise, it is best to keep them chilled, especially when serving at parties or gatherings.

Best Deviled Egg Recipe Variations

There are countless ways to customize this easy deviled eggs recipe, so be creative and enjoy! For example, if you want to —

Add avocado: You can make avocado deviled eggs by using mashed avocado instead of mayonnaise.

Add sauce: You can mix a little Worcestershire sauce, Sriracha, or hot sauce into the egg mixture.

Add bacon: Sprinkle chopped, crispy bacon over the top to make delicious Bacon Deviled Eggs.

Add cheese: Mix soft, crumbled cheese (such as feta or goat cheese) or grated cheese (such as sharp cheddar, Gouda, etc.) into the egg mixture.

Add fresh herbs: Mix finely chopped fresh herbs (such as dill, parsley, or basil) into the filling, or sprinkle them on top for garnish.

Add extra spices: You can add a spice blend of your choice (such as ‘Everything Bagel’ seasoning, curry powder, blackening powder, or Italian seasoning) to the creamy filling.

Add pickles: In the Southern United States, it is quite common to use relish (a pickle mixture) in the deviled egg filling. You can also use pickle juice instead of lemon juice if you prefer.

Deviled eggs are easy to prepare hard-boiled eggs where the egg yolk is loaded with mayonnaise, mustard, salt and pepper. A perfect healthy and quick bite-size finger food or easy holiday appetizer that takes just 15 minutes to make at home for any parties or celebration.

Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar (Optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Paprika, for garnish

Instructions

    1. Boil the eggs. Bring water to a boil in a pot. Then, reduce the heat (or turn off the stove) so the water stops boiling or bubbling. Carefully place the eggs into the hot water using a strainer or spoon. Then, increase the heat and set a timer for 14 minutes.

    2. Prepare a bowl of ice-cold water. While the eggs are boiling, prepare ice and water in a separate bowl and set it aside. After 14 minutes, remove the eggs from the water and place them into the bowl of ice-cold water.
    3. Peel and cut the eggs. Once the eggs have cooled completely, peel them and cut them in half lengthwise. Using a small spoon, scoop out the yolks into a bowl and arrange the egg whites on a plate.
    4. Prepare the filling. Mash the egg yolks with a fork and mix in the mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar or lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Stir the mixture thoroughly until it becomes smooth. Pro tip: You can also use a hand mixer to make the mixture even smoother and fluffier.

    5. Fill and serve. Using a spoon, refill the portions of the egg whites with the ‘deviled egg’ mixture. Sprinkle with a little paprika for garnish.

Notes

1. To make a smoother filling: To make the egg yolk puree super smooth, blend the yolks, mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt), lemon juice or Apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, garlic, salt, and pepper in a food processor until the mixture is completely smooth.

2. Make-ahead option: You can easily prepare hard-boiled eggs and the filling mixture up to 1 day in advance; store them in tightly sealed containers in the fridge. (I love to store the creamy filling mixture in a piping bag or Ziploc bag for easy piping.) Then, arrange the deviled eggs just before serving.

3. If you have extra, store them in the fridge for 2-3 days in an airtight container.
